A boy enters the landscape and all around the desert rejoices.
A Lenten desert can be very accommodating.
The weather turned in the late afternoon as we arrived at Cove Palisades State Park in Oregon. Pre-summer warmth was pushed out by a short lived cold front that brushed Mt. Jefferson.
The next morning the sun’s light show was brief but dramatic.
Cove Palisades surrounds Lake Billy Chinook. In summer it’s very difficult to get a camping spot almost anywhere on the lake.
Where we camped, on the rim, a fast moving fire torched almost 300 acres in 2015. As hardy as junipers are, this one won’t be coming back.
Despite the fire, rejuvenation is part of the cycle, be it seasonal or catastrophic. There is growth and food enough for all, including this eagle (below) who has his sights set on something.
